De culturele infrastructuur van Rotterdam is in beweging. De komende jaren verdwijnen verschillende tijdelijke huisvestingen voor makers in en rond het centrum. De gemeenschappen die daar jarenlang werkten, verspreiden zich nu over de stad. Nieuwe broedplaatsen ontstaan elders, en ook de culturele programmering verschuift: steeds vaker richting het westen van de stad, met TENT aan de Coolhaven en Roodkapje aan de Keileweg. In BoTu zelf staan inmiddels drie ateliergebouwen: twee aan de Blokmakersstraat en Zoutziedersstraat, en sinds kort een derde in de voormalige Nicolaasschool aan de Korfmakersstraat 12. Samen huisvesten ze bijna honderd makers, kunstenaars en creatieve ondernemers. Toch blijft deze culturele productie grotendeels onzichtbaar voor de wijk. De ateliers functioneren als tijdelijke werkplekken, afgeschermd van het dagelijks leven in BoTu, waardoor wederzijdse betrokkenheid nauwelijks ontstaat. Terwijl deze creatieve nieuwkomers wel een rol spelen in de sociale veranderingen in de buurt. Oud House volgt de ontwikkeling van deze nieuwe gemeenschap op de voet. Samen met makers uit de Korfmakersstraat, verenigd onder de naam KM12, onderzoeken we hoe deze groep zich vormt, beweegt en verhoudt tot de wijk. In deze tentoonstelling tonen we het werk van de nieuwkomers die BoTu de komende jaren mede zullen vormgeven.

Rotterdam’s cultural infrastructure is in flux. In the coming years, several temporary workspaces for makers in and around the city centre will disappear. The communities that have worked there for years are now dispersing across the city. New creative hubs are emerging elsewhere, and also cultural programming is shifting, increasingly toward the west, with TENT at the Coolhaven and Roodkapje opening on the Keileweg. In BoTu, three studio buildings are now active: two on Blokmakersstraat and Zoutziedersstraat, and, more recently, a third in the former Nicolaasschool on Korfmakersstraat 12. Together they house nearly a hundred makers, artists, and creative entrepreneurs. Yet this cultural production remains largely invisible to the neighbourhood. The studios function as temporary workspaces, shielded from daily life in BoTu, leaving little room for mutual engagement. Even though these creative newcomers play a role in the social changes unfolding in the area. Oud House closely follows the development of this emerging community. Together with makers from Korfmakersstraat, united under the name KM12, we explore how this group forms, moves, and relates to the neighbourhood. This exhibition presents the work of the newcomers who will help shape BoTu in the years ahead.
